Where moms and people who love them go to change our world
MomsRising is a proud member of the #NotOnOurWatch coalition that stands up against toxic hate that harms our children and our democracy. For this accountability project, when the media covers opinion leaders spreading sexist, racist, xenophobic, or violent rhetoric, then #NotOnOurWatch will share: The hashtag #NotOnOurWatch, followed by a quote of that toxic hateful rhetoric, and a link to a news source that covered it. Watch and share this page to stay current with activities and partner network.
NOTE: #NotOnOurWatch is a nonpartisan project sponsored by a group of non-profit organizations. #NotOnOurWatch does not support or oppose any candidate for public office or intervene in any election for public office and none of the participating organizations will do so through this project.

We’ve been bombarded with so many offensive soundbites this election season that seeing them in the news is now the new normal. It's as though some politicians and opinion leaders have forgotten that words matter. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. Words set the parameters of civil behavior in our nation, which in turn, impacts how kids behave. Moms know this. Dads know this. People across the nation know this.
We can already see the toxic impact of this negative discourse on our children and in our communities. A recent study found that more than two-thirds of teachers surveyed reported that students—mainly immigrants, children of immigrants and Muslims—expressed concerns or fears about what might happen to them or their families after the election.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
To stand up against this toxic hate, MomsRising is partnering with several other organizations to launch #NotOnOurWatch, a campaign to call out this toxic rhetoric. When the media covers people saying or doing sexist, racist, xenophobic, or violent things, we’ll share that information & a link to a news source that covered it, preceded with the hashtag #NotOnOurWatch.
The campaign will NOT include any messaging relating to voting for or against any candidates, or to voting at all. This is purely an accountability project.
More details: #NotOnOUrWatch is a nonpartisan project sponsored by a group of non-profit organizations. #NotOnOurWatch does not support or oppose any candidate for public office or intervene in any election for public office and none of the participating organizations will do so through this project.
