A Consequential Election for America’s Moms
Lisa Lederer, 202/371-1996
“For many moms, yesterday’s election brings profound disappointment but our commitment to realizing our vision of a country that values caregiving, secures women’s health, and rejects hate and division will not waver.
“Our work to make child care and home care affordable, paid family and medical leave accessible, wages fair, our streets and communities safer, and maternal health secure will continue, without pause. The movement that is advocating for the care policies that will make it possible for our country to thrive will grow even stronger, because we know families, businesses, and our economy simply can’t succeed without a care infrastructure. We will fight for a tax system that asks the wealthiest among us to pay their fair share, so we have the resources we need to build a robust care infrastructure. And as we continue working with lawmakers to adopt care policies, we will also challenge every effort to roll back the care infrastructure in place today, for example through Project 2025’s recommendation to end Head Start.
“We will continue working tirelessly to protect access to abortion, which voters in red and blue states demonstrated again yesterday that they strongly support. Abortion is health care and the hardship and devastation the Dobbs decision caused cannot continue.
“We will leave no stone unturned in working to protect our democracy. In the months ahead, we will launch a comprehensive voter education campaign to help moms and other voters navigate the barrage of disinformation from the far right and foreign nations. And we will work tirelessly to stop the gun violence that happens every day in our country, and to uproot the racism, misogyny, homophobia, anti-immigrant sentiment, and patriarchy that are much too common today. Our children deserve nothing less.”
