WASHINGTON DC — On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, MomsRising and other immigrant rights advocates, families, allies and leaders will convene hundreds of supporters in Washington, D.C. to urge President Biden and Congress to take urgent action to protect immigrants ahead of the Trump administration taking office.
The delegation will meet with key Congressional leaders throughout the day, kicking off their office visits with a press conference at the U.S. Capitol.
The mobilization, legislative visits with key congressional leaders, and press events are led by the Home is Here (HIH) coalition. Press is welcome to speak with immigrant families and advocates from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m., before the group goes through the security checkpoint.
This moment demands urgency from both Congress and President Biden to use every tool at their disposal to protect immigrants. The 118th Congress must take full advantage of this lame duck period to reject President-Elect Trump’s destructive agenda – including funding for mass deportations – and shore up protections for immigrants now and in the future. Additionally, President Biden can immediately designate, redesignate and extend Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuela, Ecuador, Nicaragua, El Salvador and all other countries that merit protection, as well as ensure all affirmative relief and renewal applications are processed as quickly as possible before Trump takes office.
Among the speakers at Tuesday’s news conference will be MomsRising member Angelica, a recent college graduate living in Connecticut, who came to the United States as a child with her family. Mercedes, a mom and MomsRising member living in New Jersey who has lived in the country for a decade, is also available for interviews. Both would benefit from TPS for Ecuador.
