‘This Will Not Stand.' Moms Leader Reacts to Affordable Care Act Ruling, Vowing Moms and Families Will Not Be Denied the Health Coverage and Care They Need

“Last night’s ruling by Federal District Court Judge Reed O’Connor, declaring the ACA unconstitutional, poses a real and immediate threat to our country’s health, well-being, stability, and economy. It puts at risk more than 130 million people with pre-existing conditions – more than half of them women. It jeopardizes the consumer protections millions of moms rely on and imperils our coverage for maternity care, mental health, and substance abuse disorders. This decision could end Medicaid expansion, putting 15 million people, many of them women and children, in harm’s way. Without the ACA, insurance companies could once more charge women more than men for the same health plans.
“This case was brought by Republicans who will stop at nothing to take away our health care. They are trying to do through the courts what they failed to do through the Congress. This ruling may be a victory for them, but – if it stands – it would be a terrible loss for the country.
We will not stand by and let our health coverage and care be stripped away.
Just as the moms of America fought back more than 70 times when Congress tried to repeal the ACA, and just as we made our views very clear in the election last month, we will fight to protect the ACA – because our health and our lives are at stake. This ruling cannot and will not stand.”
