‘We Cannot Trust That Our Families Will Be Safe Where They Live, Learn, Work and Play,’ Moms Leader Says After Shootings in Thousands Oaks

“The moms of America grieve with everyone who was affected by the horrible shootings in Thousand Oaks. We send our love and comfort to the families of all those who lost their lives and wish a full and speedy recovery to everyone who was injured and traumatized.
“We cannot become numb to the carnage caused by our country’s epidemic of gun violence.
"For too long, the gun lobby has blocked meaningful reform and today, there are more firearms in civilian hands than there are people in this country. The consequences are tragic and simply intolerable. We cannot trust that our families will be safe where they live, learn, work and play.
“For too long, the National Rifle Association and pro-gun politicians – including President Trump – have blocked meaningful reform. We need to get military-style assault weapons and high capacity magazines out of civilian hands. We need universal background checks. We need to do more to stop domestic violence, provide mental health services and support veterans. We need law enforcement and loved ones to have access to gun violence restraining orders and education about how and when to use them, where they are available. We may not be able to stop every incident of gun violence, but there is much more we can do to make our country safe.
“Thoughts and prayers are insufficient. It’s time for lawmakers to act. We must save lives.”
