200,000
Lisa Lederer, 202/371-1996
“As moms, we feel the intense, acute pain of 200,000 lives lost to the COVID-19 pandemic. We know that 200,000 families have been shattered, and 200,000 communities, schools and workplaces will never be the same. We know that our collective future is less bright because the contributions, wisdom, joy and love of those 200,000 moms and dads, sons and daughters, spouses and siblings are lost to us forever. We know America is diminished by the loss of every one of them.
“We know the horrors of COVID-19 have been compounded by our federal government’s criminally inadequate response—that a President resistant to science, untethered to the truth, and focused only on his selfish interests has sacrificed lives to his political agenda. We know the same administration that botched the pandemic response so horribly is about to go before our highest court to try to deny health coverage and care to people with preexisting conditions, including the pre-existing condition of having had COVID-19, which would affect 6.9 million Americans. We know, too, that the administration is conspiring with leaders in the U.S. Senate in truly unethical ways to create a U.S. Supreme Court majority that will rip health care coverage away from 20 million people by striking down the Affordable Care Act, and will deny women access to basic reproductive health care.”

“These deaths, this cruelty, this division is not tolerable or sustainable. Moms demand better because we all deserve better. We will flex our collective power in November and beyond. Our grief will lead to action, to a new direction, a resurgence of our democracy, and a stronger country—with moms leading the way.”
