$35 Per Month Cap on Insulin Costs a Huge Relief to Moms, Families
Lisa Lederer, 202/371-1996
“For years, MomsRising members have shared with us the heartbreaking choices they have been forced to make in order to afford insulin. Too many moms have had to struggle with the choice of paying for the insulin a child or family member needs or paying the rent and putting food on the table. Now, thanks to the pressure the Biden/Harris administration and congressional Democrats have been applying, Eli Lilly has agreed to cap insulin costs at a level most families can afford. This is a huge boost and relief for millions of families. When people can stop skipping or unsafely rationing doses, our public health will improve.
“This is real progress and a powerful reminder that lawmakers have the power to create meaningful change. Democrats set the $35 per month cap on insulin costs for seniors in the Inflation Reduction Act last year. While Republicans have continuously tried to repeal that cap, Democrats have been working hard to expand it to all people, regardless of age. We commend Eli Lilly for making that a reality.
“Still, the work to rein in sky-high prescription drug costs and stop corporate price gouging is not done. We urge lawmakers to build on this progress by taking steps to make all medications affordable.”
