'A Good Day for Democracy;' Moms Leader Lauds House Passage of For the People Act

“America moved closer to being the fair, just democracy it should be when the House of Representatives passed H.R. 1, the For the People Act, today. This essential legislation protects the right to vote, helps ensure that every vote will be counted, strengthens ethics laws, and fights the shameful voter suppression that has characterized too many recent elections. It makes it easier for people to vote, harder for partisan politicians to gerrymander, easier for moms and others to make our voices heard, and harder for criminals to hack, corrupt and steal elections. Its potential to restore the Voting Rights Act is vitally important, as is its potential to minimize the impact of big money in our elections and our government.
“Moms across the country want a democracy where everyone participates, every vote is counted, and every voice is heard. We support the For the People Act and we demand that the U.S. Senate pass this bill as well.
“Today’s House vote makes this a good day for democracy – and it will be an even better day when the U.S. Senate steps up to pass the For the People Act as well. It’s past time we put government back in the hands of the citizens.”
