A Great Day for the Country, As U.S. Supreme Court Rejects Trump’s Cruel Action to End DACA
Lisa Lederer, 202/371-1996
“Today the U.S. Supreme Court ruled, by the slimmest of margins, to invalidate the Trump administration’s cruel, racist move to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program. This is a great day for the country. Most immediately, today’s ruling means that some 700,000 immigrant youth can remain in the only country most have ever called home, which will strengthen our health care system, our economy and our country. DACA has allowed people brought to the United States as children to apply for temporary status that protects them from being deported and allows them to work – and nearly all DACA recipients are in school or hold jobs. DACA status lasts for two years and is renewable. Today’s ruling reinforces that, for DACA recipients, #HomeIsHere.”

“America’s moms want this to be the end of the Trump administration’s war on DACA recipients, immigrants and asylum seekers. It is time to come together and reject the racism and division this President promotes. We urge the Trump administration not to continue challenging the DACA program in the courts, and Congress to pass permanent protections and solutions through, at minimum, extensions of DACA and Temporary Protected Status work permits and protection from deportation for immigrants in stimulus packages to address COVID-19. Just as it is time to end police brutality and to shift funds from police and from ICE, it is time to end the uncertainty the DACA community has experienced for much too long. Moms stand with the Movement for Black Lives and with DACA recipients and all immigrants in demanding an end to systemic racism, which will improve life in all our communities.”
