AAPI Against Gun Violence Coalition to Host Press Conference to Discuss Gun Violence Prevention and the AAPI Community
Lisa Lederer, 202/371-1996
WASHINGTON — On Wednesday, January 25 at 2 PM ET, the AAPI Against Gun Violence Coalition will host a virtual press conference to discuss gun violence prevention. The AAPI community is once again mourning in the aftermath of the horrific mass shooting that devastated Lunar New Year celebrations in Monterey Park, California, where Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders make up more than 65% of the population. On the eve of what should have been a joyous celebration for the AAPI community, this senseless tragedy – committed with an assault pistol and high capacity magazines– stole the lives of 11 individuals and injured many others. Just two days later, the mass shooting involving Asians in Half Moon Bay took another seven lives.
