MomsRising Presents Senator Harry Reid with Superhero Award
Recognizing U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s heroic and successful efforts to pass the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in the U.S. Senate, MomsRising.org, the online and on-the-ground organization for moms and everyone who has a mom, today presented him with the first-ever MomsRising Superhero Award. The Award was presented in commemoration of Mother’s Day, coming up on Sunday.
MomsRising Executive Director Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner and National Health Care Campaign Director Donna Norton presented the award to the Senate Majority Leader at the U.S. Capitol.
“Senator Reid took a strong and principled stand for moms, dads and kids all across this country when he decided that health care reform would become law and would be a win for kids and families,” said Rowe-Finkbeiner. “His commitment to America’s families and his efforts to get this crucial legislation through the Senate were super-heroic and frankly, almost super-human. We are proud to honor him with this award on behalf of our thousands of members in Nevada and our more than one million members nationwide.”
MomsRising organized its members across the country in numerous campaigns in support of health reform. Actions included:
- Holding in-district meeting with Members of Congress;
- Sharing stories that illustrated the importance of health reform legislation in a book,
- Mothers Know Best: MomsRising Members Share Their Personal Healthcare Stories;
- Distributing flyers dispelling myths and untruths about health reform as members of local “Healthcare Reform Truth Squads”;
- Urging Members of Congress to wear pacifier lapel pins to show their support for health reform; and
- Making more than half a million constituent contacts to the offices of Members of Congress in support of health reform.
