America’s Moms Thank Democratic Leaders for Focusing on Immigrant Workers and Families as Congress Finalizes Its Latest Pandemic Relief Package

“In emergencies like this, it is especially important that the solutions we craft and the resources we allocate are targeted to those in greatest need. Every family that needs it, including families with mixed immigration status, must be able to access testing and treatment so they can combat the coronavirus. Even the President said he agrees on that.
“Excluding immigrant families from testing and medical services would have devastating consequences for our country’s public health and for our financial recovery. The Trump administration has created a climate of fear for immigrants in this country and must take responsibility for ending that now. Undocumented families must not fear accessing food, housing, and health care assistance. They need rock-solid assurances that ICE and other authorities will not arrest, detain or deport anyone who needs care. DREAMers, Temporary Protected Status recipients, and undocumented families should be explicitly included in the next coronavirus relief package. In addition, we need detention center authorities to take steps to assure the health and safety of those they are holding and to release everyone who does not pose a threat to public safety.
“We need legislation that centers all workers and families, not provides a give-away to wealthy corporations. Excluding immigrant and vulnerable communities from medical and economic support would be reckless. We are all connected and every family deserves protection against the harms this pandemic is causing."
