MomsRising to Present ‘Thank You’ Letter to City Leaders for Their Work Supporting Early Learning
Mayor Nan Whaley and Dayton City Commissioners Matt Joseph, Jeffrey J. Mims, Chris Shaw, and Joey Williams have been working to make Dayton a “City of Learners” by focusing on the early education of Dayton’s littlest residents. Dayton moms and dads will thank them for efforts at the City Commissioners’ meeting:
5:45pm, Wednesday, October 19
City Hall
Dayton
Under the leadership of Mayor Whaley, the City of Learners Committee met with almost 450 parents, educators, community leaders, and early childhood specialists in 11 listening sessions to hear about their experiences with accessing early learning programs. The city’s leaders are also working to fund early childhood education and universal pre-school.
MomsRising and the Miami Valley Organizing Collaborative will present the Mayor and commissioners with a thank you a letter signed by Dayton parents, that reads:
As a resident of Dayton and a member of MomsRising.org, I was excited to see your leadership in strengthening access to affordable, high-quality early learning opportunities for children and families.
Thank you for going the extra mile to make sure our kids have the best start in life possible. Early learning is a critical investment in our families and our communities and we hope that you and local leaders will continue to do everything in your power to further strengthen early learning opportunities for families in Dayton!
Mayor Whaley is featured in the Strong Start for Strong Cities guide, a city resource created by MomsRising in partnership with the National League of Cities and School Readiness Consulting, that includes proven best practices, stories from families, and tools for advancing high-quality early learning at the city and municipal level. MomsRising and the National League of Cities are sharing the guide with city leaders across the nation to help inspire them to make affordable, quality early learning programs, like pre-k and childcare, a top priority.
