How Many More People Will Be Terrorized and Killed By Gun Violence Before Congress Stops Glorifying Guns and Passes Comprehensive Gun Reform?

“Another school. Another community. Another tragedy that forever changes life for too many students and families. Another reminder that when we glorify guns and adopt a ‘guns-everywhere’ culture, people die.
“On the eve of the fifth anniversary of the mass shooting at Parkland School and the eve of Valentine’s Day, Michigan State University was terrorized by a mass shooting. It is hard to even be surprised, given the appalling prevalence of gun violence in this country – and given the fact that there are more guns than people in the United States, that members of Congress shamelessly and shamefully wore assault rifle pins on their lapels at the State of the Union address, that courts are making it easier for criminals to access guns, and that every day the gun industry uses fear and deception to market its deadly products to the most vulnerable members of our communities.
“Nothing could say more about the out-of-control gun violence in our nation than the reports that survivors of the shootings at both Oxford High School and Sandy Hook were at Michigan State last night when the latest mass shooting took place. America’s moms are horrified, heartsick, furious and fed up by the gun violence that takes lives every day in this country. We are sick of the glorification of guns. This is not how we want to raise our children.
“It’s time we stop glorifying guns. It’s time Congress pass comprehensive gun policy reform, starting with an immediate ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. It’s time, past time, to stop the gun violence that is destroying lives every day in this country.”
