MomsRising hosts immigration blog carnival on protecting family unity, strengthening communities and ensuring a thriving economy with the contributions of immigrants
Washington, DC – As we commemorate today’s anniversary of the adoption by the United Nations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, MomsRising has launched a blog carnival to further the national dialogue on the urgent need of making our immigration system humane and workable.
A blog carnival is a collection of blogposts on one theme, in this case on immigration, gathered together onto one blog. This blog carnival is part of MomsRising’s overall mission to advocate for family economic security and well-being for all families in the U.S. With the participation of over 30 voices from Congressional representatives to nationally recognized advocates, each blog post describes the importance of passing immigration reform legislation in the upcoming 113th Congress. These opinions reflect the strong and growing national sentiment to pass legislation that would protect family unity, strengthen communities and ensure a thriving economy with the contributions of immigrants.
“Our outdated immigration process runs counter to everything we stand for as a country, that families need to remain together and have the ability to work hard and contribute to their communities,” stated Mary Olivella, MomsRising’s Chief Strategy Officer and Director of Diversity and Inclusion Campaign Initiatives.
Among the participants in MomsRising’s blog carnival are: Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY), Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL); Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA), National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) President and CEO Benjamin Jealous, Voices for America's Children President Jacquelyn Lendsey, and Huffington Post President and Editor-in-Chief Arianna Huffington.
It is estimated that MomsRising’s blog carnival will reach 3.5 million readers via social media networks. In addition, the organization plans to send the blog posts directly to the White House and members of Congress so they are aware of the extent of support across the country to reach a workable and humane immigration system for all.
“We are a stronger nation when we work together in good faith to reach consensus,” added Olivella. “This blog carnival is a reflection of the great interest from people across the nation to find an effective solution to reform our immigration process, always putting the well-being of families at the forefront.”
