Members of MomsRising.org– an online and on-the-ground organization for moms and everyone who has a mom – will present an enormous "thank you" card, signed by hundreds of moms from around the state, to Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree and City Council Members Kim Bradley, Deborah Delgado, Carter Carroll, Mary Dryden and Henry Naylor, to thank them for their dedication to children’s health:
10:30am, Saturday, July 25
Hattiesburg Zoo
107 South 17th Avenue
Hattiesburg, MS
DuPree andthe council members are leading Hattiesburg’s launch of the E³ Health Initiative, which enrolls eligible children and families in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). There are roughly 6,000 eligible, but uninsured children and families in Hattiesburg’s Lillie Burney, Rowan, and Hawkins Elementary school zones alone and E³ aims to reduce that number by 50%. As of May 2015, there has been a 76.2% growth in Medicaid enrollment in the 39401 areas alone.
The Mayor and the City Council members are expected to accept the card in person at the Hattiesburg Zoo. It will be delivered by local MomsRising members and their children, and experts on CHIP and children’s health.
