Moms Applaud Biden Administration Plan To Lower Prescription Drug Prices

Statement of leaders of MomsRising, the online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, on the Biden administration plan to reduce prescription drug prices:

“America’s moms commend the Biden administration for its plan, released today, which holds great promise for finally reducing sky-high prescription drug costs, which are an enormous problem for families all across our country. No mom should have to make the heartbreaking choice between paying for the medicines her family needs or covering food, rent, and transportation.

“Yet in our country today, while millions of families can’t afford the medicines they need, drug companies are making outrageous profits. The Biden proposal, which will limit price increases, cap medication costs for Medicare beneficiaries, and invest in research for new drugs, will help. Congress must prioritize its passage.”

“The President’s support for allowing Medicare to negotiate lower prices would not only lower costs for seniors, families and employers, but it would also produce half a trillion dollars in savings for taxpayers. This savings could be used to expand our nation’s health care infrastructure and ensure that every person has affordable health care they need.

“It’s long past time lawmakers put the needs of families ahead of the greed of big pharma, and the Biden plan is an essential step in doing that. Congress should prioritize its passage and give Medicare the power to negotiate for lower drug prices, now.”
