Moms Applaud White House Request for Emergency Child Care Funding

“America’s moms commend the Biden/Harris administration for today’s emergency funding request for $16 billion in child care stabilization funds. This is finger-on-the-pulse action, coming at a time when the child care programs that our country relies on are being forced to raise rates or close because lawmakers allowed the pandemic relief to expire at the end of September. Unless the government steps in, the result of our failure to stabilize our child care system will be catastrophic for moms, families, businesses, and for our economy.
“MomsRising has been working tirelessly to convince lawmakers to invest in child care, sharing child care stories with every member of Congress, reaching out to leaders and, most recently in early October, bringing dozens of moms, caregivers, and kids from 20 states to Washington, D.C. to discuss the urgency to invest in our child care system. Now we will work just as tirelessly to convince Congress to appropriate these urgently needed funds.
“Moms are also urging lawmakers in Congress to support the administration’s request to fully fund the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) – a move that is essential to meeting the food and nutrition needs of young families and avoid funding shortfalls that will lead to waitlists or cuts for this critical program. We expect Congress to support that as well. It’s time – past time – we prioritize addressing the needs of families.”
