Moms Cheer Biden/Harris Administration for New Call to Boost Child Care Spending, Urge Congress to Act

“The search for quality, affordable child care is the defining challenge in the lives of many young families. When it isn’t available, as is too often the case, moms and caregivers are forced out of the workforce. Families struggle to make ends meet. Children miss out on early learning opportunities that set them up to succeed in school. Businesses can’t fill the jobs they’ve created. And our economy suffers terribly. Recognizing this, and the crisis of unsustainably low pay for the child care workforce, the Biden/Harris administration has fought tirelessly for the child care funding our nation needs. America’s moms are grateful!
“The stabilization grants the administration fought for and Congress approved have had a significant impact, but they end this year. Many states are already seeing their funds end. So moms especially applaud the administration for sending a renewed call to congressional leaders last week with a refreshed supplemental funding request that notes the ‘precarious state of the child care sector and the need to bring down child care costs for working families.’ The letter asks Congress to support 225,000 child care providers and the approximately 10 million children—and their families—who rely on them. Moms are counting on Congress to heed this request in the FY2025 budget it is working on now. There’s absolutely no time to wait.”
