Moms Commend Lawmakers for Reauthorizing Violence Against Women Act
Lisa Lederer, 202/371-1996
“At a time when rates of domestic and other forms of violence are increasing, moms and families will be safer because Congress passed and President Biden signed the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act of 2022 (VAWA 2022) into law. VAWA 2022 strengthens this essential law, improving access to life-saving services for survivors of violence, including those from indigenous, underserved and marginalized communities; making urgently needed investments in preventing teen dating violence and other forms of violence; and improving the responsiveness of health care and other systems to women and children who are at risk.
“Reauthorization of VAWA was stalled for many years, and America’s moms thank U.S. Senators Richard Durbin (D-Illin.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), as well as Representatives Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Penn.), and Jerry Nadler (D-New York) for getting it through Congress and to President Biden’s desk. This is a step forward for the country.”
