Moms Grateful for U.S. House Passage of Women’s Health Protection Act. With States Adopting Draconian Abortion Bans and SCOTUS Failing to Protect Our Rights, U.S. Senate Must Do Same.
Lisa Lederer, 202/371-1996
“Today, the U.S. House of Representatives took an essential step to protect women’s health and rights, dignity and autonomy, by passing the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) of 2021. This bill will protect access to abortion care for everyone in this country, no matter where they live. Its enactment is especially important for low-income women, people of color, individuals with disabilities, and other vulnerable communities who are suffering grave harm from S.B. 8, Texas’ draconian six-week abortion ban, which denies pregnant people basic health care and invites anti-choice vigilantes to use the courts to harass and intimidate health care providers.
“Most people who have abortions in this country are moms. We must be able to determine if, when and how many children to have, and to make the deeply personal decisions about abortion care without interference from politicians or the public.
“America’s moms are counting on the U.S. Senate to join the U.S. House in passing the WHPA. We can no longer count on the courts to protect our health and rights.”
