Moms Horrified by the Mass Shootings That Take Place Day After Day After Day

Statement of leaders of MomsRising, the online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, on today’s mass shooting in Brooklyn:

“Brooklyn. Sacramento. Cedar Rapids. Greenville.

“A subway train. A nightclub. A street corner. A school.

“No setting is safe, no community immune from the scourge of gun violence that is devastating our country. 

“Our hearts break for every victim of this morning’s mass shooting at a Brooklyn subway station and all those affected by it, and for every victim of all the other shootings that occur in this country day after day after day.

“Right now, our nation has more guns than people. Gun violence is epidemic and it is getting worse. This is not how America’s moms want to raise our kids. We want our kids to grow up in communities that are safe, go to schools that are safe, eat in restaurants and cafeterias that are safe, and enjoy playgrounds and streets that are safe. Everyone should be safe when they get up in the morning and go to work.”

“We will not be safe until lawmakers finally reject the NRA and instead advance gun safety, community safety, and responsible gun ownership. What President Biden did yesterday to stop the proliferation of untraceable ghost guns is one step, but we need much more. Moms want every lawmaker to reject the ‘guns-everywhere’ culture and strengthen gun laws. Congress must pass universal background checks, finally ban insanely lethal assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and do everything necessary to make our families and communities safer.”
