Moms Leader Praises Senate Passage of Bipartisan Farm Bill
Lisa Lederer, 202-371-1996
“The Senate acted responsibly today – and with compassion and heart – by passing a farm bill that reauthorizes and improves SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) in ways that will protect and lift up vulnerable families. This bipartisan bill will test promising, not punitive, approaches to job training and employment, and invest in SNAP in ways that help seniors, people with disabilities and others who are food-insecure. Protecting SNAP protects our families and our economy and we applaud the Senate for recognizing the critical role SNAP plays in food-insecure families.
“The Senate bill is a stark contrast with the cruel, irresponsible Farm Bill the House of Representatives passed last week, which would exacerbate hunger in America through unnecessary, harmful and overly restrictive work requirements.
“We urge House leaders to abandon their misguided, damaging bill and join the Senate in adopting legislation that not only protects the health and nutrition of our families, but also benefits farmers, the environment and our economy.”
