Moms & NH Child Advocates Urge the 2016 Presidential Candidates to Speak on Policies that Open Doors For Our Children, Families, and Businesses

MomsRising, the Every Child Matters Education Fund and the University of New Hampshire Invite 2016 Candidates to Presidential Forums in NH on Child and Family Policies
NEW HAMPSHIRE -- Today the Every Child Matters Education Fund, and the University of New Hampshire in partnership with MomsRising.org released a letter calling on the 2016 Presidential candidates to participate in a forum on child and family issues, which polls show are of highest concern for working families in this year’s election. In addition, more than 13,000 Momsrising members from New Hampshire and around the country have signed onto a letter urging all the candidates to come to the table and discuss these critical issues.
 
These individual candidate forums will be a bipartisan opportunity to highlight the most pressing policy areas and concerns relating to children, youth, working families, and our economy in New Hampshire and throughout the United States. Ahead of the New Hampshire primary election, each candidate will be asked to address six critical questions about children and families.  
 
The forums, to be hosted later this year, will take place at the University of New Hampshire in Durham.
 
Earlier this year, a poll from the First Five Years Fund found that an overwhelming majority of American workers want to see candidates address issues of family economic security and child development.
  • More than three-fourths of American voters support increasing federal investment to help states provide more access to high-quality early childhood programs for low- and moderate-income families. 
  • Voters see access to quality early childhood education as a necessity for today’s families.
  • Voters support federal investment when it doesn’t permanently add to the debt or deficit – something quality early childhood education has proven it can accomplish.
  • Voters overwhelmingly describe a candidate who supports federal investment in state and local early childhood programs as one who is looking out for working- and middle-class families.
  • Americans say our education priorities should be reversed, calling for more investment in early education.
