Moms Urge Congress to Expand the Child Tax Credit Now

“At this time of widespread financial hardship, when our economy needs lifting and tens of millions of moms and families are struggling to put food on the table, pay for housing, and afford child care, America’s moms are looking to lawmakers for relief. That’s why we are so grateful that the House Ways & Means Committee voted to advance H.R. 7024, the Tax Relief for American Workers and Families Act of 2024, today. This urgently needed legislation would temporarily expand the Child Tax Credit, boosting our economy, supporting businesses, lifting as many as 400,000 children above the poverty line, and making life better for an additional 3 million children and their families this year.
“While this bill does not provide the full benefit to all families that are struggling to make ends meet, nor does it have some of the provisions that were so beneficial during the pandemic, including monthly checks and the young child boost, it would be an important step in reducing child poverty, which is an urgent national imperative. And it would help give many parents the resources they need to work, raise their families, and contribute to our economy.
“The expanded Child Tax Credit that Congress enacted during the pandemic was a historic, unmitigated success. America’s moms are urging the full Congress to waste no time in passing H.R. 7024 – a vitally important bill that will continue the progress.”
