“On Friday, America’s moms were horrified when the conservative majority on the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the federal ban on bump stocks, using a technical argument to allow onto our streets a device that turns a semiautomatic rifle into a weapon that can discharge 400 – 800 bullets per minute. Once again, the U.S. Supreme Court showed they prioritize guns over our constitutional rights to life, liberty from violence, and the pursuit of happiness absent from fear. The conservative justices demonstrated grotesque, callous disregard for the carnage their ruling will bring in a country with more guns than people. We had a warning this weekend when the nation suffered an appalling 14 mass shootings that killed at least 10 people and injured some 73 others. We don’t yet know if bump stocks were used in any of those shootings, but we know such shootings will be even more deadly as bump stocks become more readily available.
