STATEMENT OF Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, Executive Director and CEO, MomsRising, on the Supreme Court Deadlock in United States v. Texas
“Moms and their families across the country are deeply disappointed at the Supreme Court’s decision on President Obama’s executive actions on immigration, which aimed to keep immigrant families together and strengthen our nation’s economy with their contributions. The Court’s decision to let stand the lower court’s ruling means that the more than 5 million children in homes with one undocumented parent face being separated from their parents. MomsRising members across the country are committed to the fight for comprehensive immigration policy reform, and will continue to work to keep these families together.
“Make no mistake, this ruling is a result of the Senate’s refusal to do its job and grant a hearing to President Obama’s nominee for the Supreme Court. Without a ninth Justice, a 4-4 split forced the Court to let stand the lower court’s ruling. That is not how our nation’s highest court was ever intended to function. And it is unacceptable.”
