Statement from Kristin-Rowe Finkbeiner, CEO and executive director of MomsRising, on last night’s #NoBillNoBreak sit-in in the US House of Representatives
“Last night, moms and their families across America cheered on the House Democrats as they staged a historic sit-in to urge a vote on common-sense gun safety measures. Over the past several years moms have sent in over 100,000 letters, made calls, visited leaders, shared their stories with gun violence, held events, and so much more. With an epidemic of gun deaths - more than 33,000 Americans are injured or killed by guns each year - now is not the time for business as usual.
“Moms and their families demand Congress take swift action to make tragedies like the Orlando massacre less likely in the future and to make Americans safer - including moving forward background checks for gun purchases, a ban on the sale of military-style assault weapons and high capacity magazines, and funding for CDC research into gun violence. These ideas, with the overwhelming support of the American people, are necessary to make our country safer. The well-being of our families, our friends and our communities depend on it.”
