National Moms’ Organization Launches Weekly Radio Show To Discuss Issues of the Day
This Mother’s Day is the perfect day for MomsRising.org to add another facet to its multi-platform, multimedia community. With more than a million members nationwide and a blog with a readership of about 3 million the online and on-the-ground organization for moms and everyone who has a mom is going to bring moms' voices directly to the decision makers in Washington, DC. The hour-long show, MomsRising Radio with Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, produced by WeAct Radio airs on WPWC 1480AM in Washington, DC and also online on WeActRadio.com and MomsRising.org. MomsRising plans to also distribute the podcasts of the program through its vast social media and blogging reach, as well as to share the podcast with members.
The show will be hosted by MomsRising Executive Director/CEO and Co-Founder Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, as an informative and entertaining exploration of the issues and policies that affect moms and their families every day. Shows will feature guests who will provide important and informed perspectives on a range of issues from health care to women in politics to our nation’s child care policies. Upcoming guests include former Vermont Governor and U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland Madeleine Kunin and National Council of Negro Women Executive Director Avis Jones-DeWeever. MomsRising Radio will also include the voices and perspectives of MomsRising members on a regular basis.
“The issues that affect families affect every one of us in some way,” said Rowe-Finkbeiner. “On MomsRising Radio we’re going to talk about those issues – our health care, our environment, our economy. We're also going to celebrate women and moms. This is a show for everyone with a belly button. It’s feisty, it’s fun and it’s smart, like moms. I’m excited about this new endeavor and about the opportunity to bring a unique and important perspective to the issues of the day, including important issues that I don’t think get enough public discourse. We plan to change that.”
"We Act Radio is driven by a core belief that the media is the most powerful cultural force in this country, and that talk radio has been dominated by one narrow point of view," said Alex Lawson, Co-owner of We Act Radio. "In today's media landscape it is critical that women and moms are able to make their voice heard through the medium of radio, and the whole We Act Radio family is proud to be closer to that goal with the addition of MomsRising Radio."
Since it was founded in 2006, MomsRising’s more than one million members have supported national, state and local efforts to ensure fair pay, secure paid sick days, support family leave policies, reduce toxins in our homes, improve health care, help achieve flexible, custom-fit workplace policies, increase access to high quality early learning opportunities, and much, much more.
Rowe-Finkbeiner co-founded MomsRising.org six years ago to advance the issues that affect moms and their families. She is the award-winning author of several books, including The Motherhood Manifesto (which she co-wrote with MomsRising President and Co-Founder Joan Blades) and The F-Word: Feminism in Jeopardy. A regular contributor to the Huffington Post, Rowe-Finkbeiner is also a sought-after expert on policy issues that affect moms and using social media to mobilize individuals and make social change.
