Statement from Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, CEO and executive director of MomsRising, an online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, on the CBO scoring of the American Health Care Act
“Yesterday’s Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report confirms what we have known all along: The Trump-led Republican health care plan to repeal much of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and restructure Medicaid would strip away health care coverage for millions of people -- 24 million by 2026. The only winners would be the wealthy, as well as the insurance and drug companies that benefit from the bill’s enormous tax cuts.
“The American Health Care Act would not only cost lives and hurt our economy, it makes a mockery of every campaign promise Donald Trump made about health care. Its enactment would be an absolute crisis for our nation, particularly for those who are in vulnerable communities, including: low-income families, people with disabilities, rural communities, and the elderly; with a compounding impact in Black, Latinx, Asian, Native American, and LGBTQ+ communities. To make matters worse, it would defund Planned Parenthood, undermining women’s access to basic health care. This legislation would be a disaster - and we must stop it.
“Instead of trying to undermine the credibility of the CBO, Republican leaders should work to strengthen the Affordable Care Act and ensure that everyone in this country has access to health coverage. Everyone gets sick, everyone should have a chance to get better too."

The more than one million members of MomsRising have been pushing Congress to protect and improve the Affordable Care Act instead of repealing it on multiple fronts: Speaking out at town hall meetings across the nation, as well as by delivering hundreds of stories from every state about how Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act have saved lives. MomsRising members have sent letters and petitions, made calls to their leaders, shared facts on social media, written letters to the editor of their local newspapers, and visited the offices of elected leaders on Capitol Hill and in their districts. MomsRising will keep fighting for health care until coverage for millions of people is no longer at risk.
