MomsRising.org to NFL: ‘Help Us Spread the Word about New Health Insurance Options through the Affordable Care Act’

Moms to Deliver Thousands of Signatures on Invitation to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday
MomsRising.org, the online and on-the-ground grassroots organization for moms and everyone who has a mom, will deliver an invitation signed by thousands of moms, dads and others across the country to National Football League (NFL) Commissioner Roger Goodell asking the NFL to team up with MomsRising.org and join the organization’s Wellness Wonder Team to spread the word about the new health insurance options that will become available under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) beginning October 1.  Moms will make their delivery at:

The NFL decided against partnering with HHS after pressure from members of Congress. MomsRising.org hopes to convince Goodell to reconsider.
 
“MomsRising.org knows that the NFL is the perfect partner,” said MomsRising.org Executive Director Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner. “Last season, NFL broadcasts were viewed by 200 million people, representing 80 percent of all television homes. Millions of those viewers are uninsured and don’t know that they might be eligible for free or low-cost insurance. All we need to do is tell them about it.”
 
Professional sports teams have helped promote similar programs in the past – including Medicaid Part D coverage and the health reform law in Massachusetts.  
 
The invitation to Goodell says:
 
We urge you to reconsider your position against the NFL helping to promote new, affordablehealth insurance options that will soon be available to millions of your uninsured fans. As a league that is committed to promoting healthy living, at your games and off the field, the NFL should take the opportunity to help spread the good news about more accessible health coverage.
 
We invite you to stand with thousands of mothers and caregivers, many of whom are supporters and big fans of the NFL, by joining the MomsRising Wellness Wonder Team. Team members simply commit to share information about new, affordable health insurance options with their communities.
