SCOTUS Fails Women Seeking Abortion Care, Again
Lisa Lederer, 202/371-1996
“The Texas anti-abortion law, S.B. 8, is an abomination that is causing grave and irreparable harm to women and families in the state, and especially to low-income people, people of color, individuals with disabilities, and those in other vulnerable communities. The U.S. Supreme Court should have struck down this Texas law, which outlaws nearly all abortions, as soon as it was enacted and the Court should have done so today. Instead, for the third time, the Court failed us.
S.B. 8 has been in effect for 100 days now, outlawing abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, before most women know they are pregnant, and creating ever-greater harm.
“America’s moms are alarmed that the U.S. Supreme Court is failing to protect our health, our rights, and our autonomy, and our country’s ability to achieve social, economic, racial and gender justice. Abortion is basic health care. Most people who have abortions are moms. Everyone must be able to determine, if, when and how many children to have. We all deserve to be able to make the deeply personal decisions about abortion care with dignity and without interference from politicians, and we all must fight to protect those rights. America’s moms are ready.”
