Moms Commend Nomination of Gina McCarthy to Head Environmental Protection Agency
"MomsRising strongly supports President Obama's nomination of Gina McCarthy to the position of Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
 
"As moms, we know how important clean air and an environment free of toxins are to the health and the healthy development of our children. McCarthy already has a track-record as a strong and successful champion for pollution control, protecting the environment and protecting our children and families from environmental toxins.
 
"She has been instrumental in many of the EPA's recent successful efforts and most important clean air victories. Those include the first-ever proposed carbon pollution standard for new power plants, groundbreaking carbon emission standards for cars, and lifesaving updates of standards that limit deadly pollution from soot, mercury and other toxins. As head of Connecticut’s Department of Environmental Protection, McCarthy also worked on the state’s No Child Left Inside program and helped restore the Long Island Sound and Connecticut’s parks and forests.
 
"Not only does McCarthy have 25 years of experience working on environmental issues, she has a history of bipartisanship. She has served in both Republican and Democratic administrations, and has been an advisor to five Massachusetts governors.
 
"Gina McCarthy is uniquely qualified to fight for the right of children and families to breathe clean air and live in environmentally safe communities. Having raised three children, herself, she knows that nothing is more important than our children's well-being. She will be a strong champion of our children's health and we urge the Senate to act quickly to confirm her."
