Sunday Is National Grandparents Day. No One Should Underestimate the Drive of America’s Grandmas!

“From Dionne Warwick to Meryl Streep to Oprah to Madonna, mature women are busting stereotypes and showing the world what they can do. So, too, are America’s grandmothers, who step up for their families every single day. That’s why, this Grandparents Day, MomsRising salutes the millions of grandmothers who are helping their families with child care, mortgage and student loan payments, and other necessities in a country that has failed to create the kind of care infrastructure we all need.
“At MomsRising, our members tell us every day about grandmothers who help parents who can’t afford child care, tend to new babies and sick kids when parents have no paid family leave or earned sick days, and help pay for food when grocery prices spike and Congress cuts SNAP. Families are likely to need those contributions even more in coming weeks with a ‘child care cliff’ fast approaching, as pandemic child care payments are set to end later this month.
“Moms are grateful to the Biden/Harris administration for the policies that are helping seniors, including steps to reduce the cost of prescription medications for Medicare recipients, measures to make elder and disability care more affordable, executive actions to support caregivers, and more. And we pledge to continue working for the kind of care infrastructure our nation’s grandparents, families, and economy need to thrive, with comprehensive paid family and medical leave; affordable child, elder, and disability care; health care for all; maternal health justice; fair wages; and a path to citizenship for the immigrants whose contributions help our country succeed.”
