Texas Abortion Ban a Danger and an Affront to Moms
Lisa Lederer, 202/371-1996
“S.B. 8, Texas’ draconian six-week abortion ban that is set to take effect today, is both a danger and an affront to all those seeking abortion care. Banning this basic health care at six weeks of pregnancy, which is well before most people even know they are pregnant, is blatantly unconstitutional and a clear violation of Roe v. Wade. The U.S. Supreme Court must block it.”
-Statement of Diarra Aida Diouf, Campaign Director, Maternal Justice and Reproductive Justice, MomsRising
“Giving the public the authority to enforce the Texas abortion ban compounds the terrible harm this destructive law will do. It means anti-choice extremists will be able to use the courts to intimidate health care providers, abusers will be empowered to harass their victims and impede their access to health care, and health centers will be under constant legal attack. This law trounces trusted relationships between patients and their health care providers, undermines women’s health and autonomy, and creates financial incentives for intrusion into the most personal decisions women make. It will cause particular harm to people of color, people with low incomes, and young people.
“Most people who have abortions are moms and everyone should be able to determine, if, when and how many children they will have; and absolutely must be able to make deeply personal decisions about abortion care with dignity and without interference from politicians or the public.”
