“The legislation U.S. Senator Ron Johnson introduced is an immoral assault on immigrant families that would sanction and continue the cruel, callous policies and human rights abuses that have horrified America’s moms and the entire country. If this bill were to pass, our government would continue tearing children away from their parents, stripping them of basic human rights protections and jailing them indefinitely in facilities that have been proven unsafe. It would strengthen the very worst laws and policies that we know cause grave, lasting harm to children and families, while weakening hiring standards for Border Patrol agents.

“This bill is an invitation for further abuse and a commitment to continue the worst, most heartless Trump administration policies. It would result in more family separation, more jails for those who have done nothing more than seek asylum, and more orphaned children.

“We urge every senator to step forward right now and commit to opposing this legislation. No senator should cosponsor it, no committee or subcommittee chair should schedule a hearing on it, and no Senate leader should bring it to the floor for a vote. This legislation is an affront to our values.”
