Title 42 Must End, Completely and Immediately

Statement of Xochitl Oseguera, Vice President, MomsRising / MamásConPoder, the online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, on the Biden administration’s decision to exempt unaccompanied children from Title 42 expulsions from the United States, but keep Title 42 in place for others:

“The Biden administration’s move last Friday to stop using Title 42 to expel unaccompanied children seeking refuge in the United States is a step in the right direction, but not nearly enough. No asylum-seeking person or family should be forced to return to the dangerous conditions from which they fled without a hearing. Title 42 is not, and never has been, a public safety measure. It is a cruel, dangerous Trump policy that should be ended for all children and all adults. There is no justification for putting asylum seekers in harm’s way.

“America’s moms know that families belong together. We want every immigrant and every asylum-seeker treated with dignity, compassion and respect. That simply isn’t possible if our government continues to use Title 42. End it now.”
