“It is disgraceful that President Trump plans to divert $7.2 billion in funds allocated to the Pentagon this year to build his border wall, in addition to the $1.375 Congress authorized for this ill-advised project. If President Trump is once again able to divert these additional funds, a total of $18.4 billion in taxpayer dollars will have been used to build an environmentally harmful wall the nation neither wants nor needs – a wall that would stand forever as a symbol of hate and division.

“On this, Trump is utterly misjudging the country. The moms of America want our hard-earned tax dollars used for education, health care, job training, food and nutrition, heating assistance, housing and other essential services – not to fund the President’s wasteful, unnecessary border wall. America’s moms recognize and reject the hate, bigotry, and perceived political self-interest that drive President Trump’s actions, just as we reject his administration’s cruel, heartless immigration policies. We want comprehensive, fair immigration policies that value families, not build walls.

“We urge Congress and the courts to block this move to divert funding to Trump’s border wall. It is long past time that Congress reclaim its power of the purse and start placing restrictions and oversights on the funds provided to the Trump Administration so it can no longer divert funds from necessary and important programs to useless and bigoted ones. We demand that every immigrant and every asylum-seeker be treated with dignity and respect. And we will not rest until this administration stops separating asylum-seeking families.”
