“The Inflation Reduction Act, passed by the U.S. House this evening and the U.S. Senate last weekend, will make major, badly needed progress to reduce the cost of prescription medications and health insurance, make our tax code fairer, and help address the increasingly ominous climate emergency. The country’s moms are especially pleased that the bill will make health insurance more affordable for millions of people who might otherwise become uninsured next year; rein in Big Pharma’s greed and price gouging; and cap seniors’ out-of-pocket costs for medications to $2,000 per year. We are terribly disappointed that Republican senators were able to block measures that would have reduced the cost of insulin and closed the Medicaid coverage gap.

"We will not have a strong economy, successful businesses, or thriving families until we build a care infrastructure by making quality child care affordable, guaranteeing access to paid family and medical leave, improving maternal health care, supporting home- and community-based services for seniors and people with disabilities, providing monthly Child Tax Credit payments, paying all care workers a living wage with decent benefits, and creating a pathway to citizenship for immigrants, many of whom are critical to our health care and our care infrastructure. Congress simply must address these critical issues very soon.”
