U.S Senate Must Join House of Representatives in Passing Dream and Promise Act, Farm Workforce Modernization Act

Statement of leaders of MomsRising, the online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, on passage of the Dream and Promise Act and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act by the U.S. House of Representatives:

“In passing the Dream and Promise Act and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, the U.S. House of Representatives took an essential step to make our country more just and help us overcome the racism and anti-immigrant views President Trump stoked for four long years. Providing a pathway to citizenship for the nearly 2 million undocumented young people in the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program and giving farmworkers and their families an opportunity to earn legal immigration is long overdue. America’s moms commend every member of the U.S. House of Representatives who voted to pass these bills, and House leaders for moving them so quickly. We urge the U.S. Senate to do the same.

“While we support these bills, the work to put fair immigration policies in place and undo the damage from the cruel, racist policies of the last four years remains unfinished. We oppose harmful provisions that deny relief to Black and Brown immigrant youth who have been targeted by racist policing or our unjust criminal justice system. Moms want the U.S. Senate to join the U.S. House of Representatives in passing the Dream and Promise Act and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, so President Biden can sign them into law. That will also help give people eligible for Temporary Protected Status and Deferred Enforced Departure the stability they deserve. Enactment of these bills, after all provisions that would perpetuate racial disparities are removed, will help end the unfairness, cruelty and racism that pervade our immigration system right now.”
