Victory for Biden/Harris Is a Victory for America’s Moms
Lisa Lederer, 202/371-1996
“Moms made a huge difference in this election. Every vote must be counted but it is clear that voters delivered a resounding victory for President-Elect Biden and, in a historic move, elected Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris, the first woman and woman of color to serve as our country’s vice president. The Democratic ticket won the popular vote by a wide margin, collecting more votes than any ticket in history. The will of the voters is clear. Moms want to put our country on a path toward peace, progress and justice for all.
“Make no mistake: Although the margins were close in some states, this election was a repudiation of Donald Trump and his unprincipled allies in the U.S. Senate and elsewhere, as well as the bigotry, corruption, and cruelty we have come to know as Trumpism.
“Moms voted for a government that will advise us about, and protect us from, the pandemic and its economic fallout.
“We voted for secure health care that covers everyone, regardless of health or immigration status. We voted for safer pregnancies and childbirths for Black, Native, and every woman. We voted for affordable birth control, accessible abortion care, and secure reproductive freedom.
“We voted for paid leave and sick days, fair wages, and quality, affordable child care. We voted for racial justice, immigrant rights, community safety, and workplaces and schools that are free from bias.
“We voted to invest in our communities and to end police brutality. We voted for criminal justice reform and sensible gun reforms that prioritize our safety. We voted for a country in which nobody goes hungry or homeless, all our children have quality education, and immigrants and asylum-seekers are welcome.
“We voted for courts that reflect our values and jurists who will protect our rights and liberties. We voted for truth over lies and against the toxic individualism that leaves everyone looking out only for themselves.
“MomsRising is proud to have reached millions of voters. Moms won’t stop here. We will stay engaged to ensure our country never goes back to the days when a corrupt, criminal president can threaten our democracy with his bigotry, hate, and misogyny. We will come together across race and place to ensure that the leaders we’ve chosen are sworn in.
“History will record the 2020 election as the moment when we took our country back from those who want to reverse our progress and undermine our freedoms.
“This is a turning point. Today we celebrate. Tomorrow we start the hard work of rebuilding America.”
