New Mother’s Day E-Card Is a New Take on “Yo Mama” Jokes
It’s a Mother’s Day “fantasy.” Three kids start up a “your mom” game – “your mom’s so cool, she makes three hours of sleep and a once-a-week shower look good.” “Your mother is so patient, your little brother gets tired of asking ‘why.’” “Your mom is so underpaid, she only makes 73 cents compared to a man’s dollar.” What? On the game goes with one little kid who doesn’t seem to get the “your mom” concept and the kids start fighting until their mothers come out and pull them apart as the children continue to shout out praises for their moms.
That’s the video Mother’s Day e-card from MomsRising, the online and on-the-ground grassroots organization for moms and everyone who has a mom. Launched on Mother’s Day 2006, the organization now boasts more than one million members, all of whom will receive the personalized e-card this weekend. A personalized message scrolls across the bottom of the screen, crawls across the bottom of the video with a fulfilled “wish list” for moms, including kids choosing healthy foods, the wage gap closing and the U.S. passing paid family leave.
The amusing and informative card can also be personalized by the recipient and sent on to friends, family members and other great moms.
“In our fantasy lives, our kids brag about how great we are and our country has policies that keep our the air clean, allow people to earn paid sick days and ensure that women get paid as much as their male counterparts,” said MomsRising Executive Director/CEO Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner. “Since we started MomsRising six years ago, we’ve been mobilizing moms and those who love them to take action and help us make our nation a better place for our kids. We’ve had a lot of success, but we still have quite a way to go. We hope this card will make the recipients laugh and also strengthen their resolve to keep fighting for the policies our country needs.”
Since it was founded in 2006, MomsRising’s more than one million members have supported national, state and local efforts to ensure fair pay, secure paid sick days, support family leave policies, reduce toxins in our homes, improve health care, help achieve flexible, custom-fit workplace policies, increase access to high quality early learning opportunities, and much, much more.
Over the years, MomsRising members’ actions included sending email messages to policy makers; sharing their personal stories about the need for family-friendly policies; meeting with policy makers and making in-person deliveries of messages; signing onto petitions encouraging companies to improve their policies; rallying at state houses and the Capitol; and more.
Dozens of diverse organizations across the country have signed on to share the love and encourage their members to use the video.
