Statement “The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals should have soundly rejected the arguments made by Republican-led states and the Trump administration and ruled conclusively that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is and will remain the law of the land. Instead, it ruled the law's individual mandate unconstitutional, and sent the case back to a hostile lower court to reconsider whether that should invalidate the entire law.

Statement “America’s moms are appalled by President Trump’s abuse of power, the lies he and members of his administration told to cover it up, and the many ways he violated the law by obstructing the congressional investigation into these crimes. We commend the U.S. House of Representatives for its thorough and fair investigation, which confirmed beyond any doubt that President Trump tried to use his influence and taxpayers’ money to coerce Ukraine leaders into interfering in our elections and then tried to cover up his self-serving actions.

Statement “The House of Representatives took a vitally important step to address a growing national crisis that is harming the health and ending the lives of too many people in America by passing the Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act today. MomsRising members tell us every day that they, family members, or friends are rationing or going without lifesaving medications because they cannot afford to pay for them, and they want solutions. We commend every representative who voted for H.R.

Statement “This morning, an administration that has refused to support the child care and paid leave solutions America’s families urgently need – has treated low-income and immigrant families with hostility and, at times, outright cruelty – and has amassed the most anti-family record of any administration in modern American history – is convening a summit on child care and paid leave.

News release WASHINGTON, D.C. -- MomsRising member Jacqui Silvani from Newfields, New Hampshire, whose family suffered without paid family and medical leave when her young son was diagnosed with cancer, testified today before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. MomsRising is an online and on-the-ground organization of more than one million mothers and their families, which has worked for paid family and medical leave throughout its 13-year history.

Statement Good morning Chairwoman Maloney, Ranking Member Jordan, and members of the committee. My name is Jacqui Silvani. I live in Newfields, New Hampshire, and I’m a proud member of MomsRising. I am also very proud to be a Navy veteran, a mother of three, a wife, and a teacher of fourth grade students at Epping Elementary School. I’m here today because I know firsthand why our country so urgently needs a comprehensive paid leave policy that allows all workers to care for their families without risking their jobs or financial security.

Statement “The agreement to include 12 weeks of paid parental leave for approximately two million federal workers as part of the National Defense Authorization Act is a significant and meaningful step forward for the federal workforce and the country. As an organization that has prioritized paid family and medical leave for all of our 13-year history, we are thrilled that millions more working people will soon have paid parental leave to care for new or newly adopted babies. We thank and commend the Democratic leaders in Congress who fought so aggressively for so long to win this advance.

Statement “Moms across our country are gravely concerned about the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs. Our members tell us every day that they, family members or friends are rationing or going without lifesaving medications they need because they cannot afford to pay for them. This is a growing national crisis and it is completely unacceptable.

Statement “The legislation U.S. Sens. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) and Reps. Colin Allred (D-Texas) and Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) introduced today is not a paid leave bill, not a meaningful boost for low-income families, and not the solution our country urgently needs. It is, instead, a fatally flawed attempt to fool people by offering families a loan now that brings stark penalties later.
December 4, 2019
Statement “Hundreds of thousands more people in our country will go hungry if President Trump’s Department of Agriculture is allowed to revise eligibility requirements for SNAP, as announced this morning. This is one more attack on struggling families from an administration without heart or compassion and a brazen attempt to do through regulation what Congress refused to do through legislation: Make it harder for hungry families to get the food and nutrition they need.
