Statement “As the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) turns 26, President Trump prepares his State of the Union address, and the most female Congress in history begins its work, lawmakers have an urgent imperative to adopt comprehensive paid family and medical leave that allows all workers to care for their families without risking their jobs or financial security. No issue is more important to America’s moms.

Statement “Too often our criminal justice system shows no regard for detained peoples’ health and safety, frequently costing them their lives. The conditions in this New York jail are nothing short of cruel and inhumane -- and sadly all too common. We must improve jail conditions to ensure they meet basic requirements and protect the human dignity of incarcerated individuals.

Statement “Gov. Northam’s comments today – including his admission of past ‘mistakes’ and his denial that he is portrayed in the deeply offensive, racist yearbook photo that surfaced yesterday – are contradictory and wholly inadequate. If he is not one of the people portrayed in that despicable photo, he should have said so the moment it surfaced. In addition, this still begs the question of why he allowed such an awful image to be featured on his yearbook page in the first place.

Statement “No woman should be shortchanged on her paycheck because of her gender or race – but, in fact, that happens to millions of women and moms right here in the United States every single day. The gap between the wages paid to women of color and moms and those paid to white men and dads is huge, punitive and shameful.
January 29, 2019
Statement “Ten years after President Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act into law, Congress has still failed to take the next meaningful steps to end pay discrimination. As a result, harmful wage gaps persist: Today the wage gap is worst for moms and women of color, with moms making 69 cents for every dollar paid to dads and women of color making as little as 49 cents on the dollar. Overall, women are paid just 80 cents for every dollar paid to men. These gaps are punitive and unjustifiable.

Statement “The moms of America are tremendously grateful that the federal shutdown – and with it the immense suffering it caused so many families – will end, at least for now. This shutdown was painful and unnecessary and the harm it caused families, communities, our economy and our country cannot be fully undone. Never again can we allow this President, or any president, to hold federal employees and the federal government hostage to a politically-motivated, completely wasteful spending priority.
January 24, 2019
Statement “We are deeply disappointed that the U.S. Senate failed to re-open the federal government this afternoon. The U.S. House of Representatives has done its job by passing bills to end the shutdown, but the Senate let the country down by failing to do the same. Voters will not soon forget this vote, and the pain and suffering it causes families and our economy.

Statement “President Trump’s remarks today and the proposal he outlined are an insult to everyone who wants our policies and spending decisions to be based on actual facts and realities. He once again told bold-faced lies designed to stir up hostility and hatred toward immigrants and asylum-seekers, and to try to force Congress to pay for his wasteful, destructive, unnecessary wall.

Statement “The Washington Childcare Access Now (CAN) Act is vitally important legislation that has the potential to address the childcare crisis that is plaguing our state. Making quality childcare affordable for all families is of paramount importance to MomsRising and its members. Right now in Washington, the average cost of infant care is nearly equal to mortgage payments for a year and more than three in five families live in a ‘childcare desert,’ without access to the affordable, quality care they need.
January 17, 2019
Statement “It’s hard to believe it’s possible, but it appears from today’s U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Inspector General’s report that the Trump administration’s cruel treatment of asylum-seeking families has been even worse – in fact, much worse – than previously reported.
