National Moms Grassroots Organization to Urge Candidates to Focus on Supporting Families with Display at Democratic and Republican Conventions
MomsRising.org, the national grassroots organization for moms and anyone who has a mom will be on-hand at the Democratic and Republican conventions to call attention to the importance of the candidates addressing family issues like health care, fair wages, flexible work hours, paid sick days, paid family leave, and affordable childcare.
 
On the heels of Lily Ledbetter’s powerful convention speech about the importance of fair pay, MomsRising.org activists will display dozens of baby onesies (one-piece outfits for babies) decorated by members from across the country with messages about what American families need, who want to hear how the candidates will address these critical “kitchen table” issues at the Democratic convention:

The Power of ONEsie display is part of MomsVote ’08, MomsRising.org’s effort to focus candidates’ attention on family friendly policies and mobilize moms to register to vote and to vote. Women comprise more than half of all voters in the U.S. and eight in ten women are mothers by the time they are 44. MomsVote ‘08 is working to bring the voices of moms and their families to the forefront during the elections.
 
MomsRising.org President Joan Blades and Campaign Director Katie Bethell will be on-hand along with several Denver-area members to offer comment on the ONEsie display and MomsVote ’08.
 
On Thursday evening MomsRising.org members will be watching Senator Obama’s speech and noting how often he mentions family friendly policies, with the help of special “BINGO” cards. During Senator McCain’s acceptance speech the following week, members will also track his mentions of these issues. MomsRising.org will host an online conversation after both conventions to ascertain members’ impressions of how each candidate performed.
