We are proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Lilly Ledbetter, women Members of Congress and our allies at other nonprofits to urge Congress to pass the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act.
Equal pay for equal work seems so basic, but it's very far from the truth these days, especially for moms. It’s the sad truth that some employers still think that it’s alright to pay women less for doing the exact same jobs as men. And under the Supreme Court’s ruling, as long as they can keep it secret for 180 days, they’re home free. This is an outrage and Congress needs to correct it immediately.
MomsRising.org members care deeply about this issue. In January, they scheduled and organized meetings with their Senators in 42 states to encourage them to support the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. We are deeply disappointed that some Senators would not listen to the moms who called on them to support this critical legislation. We hope that they are listening today and that both houses will act quickly to pass both bills.
