Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner, Executive Director of MomsRising, issued the following statement in support of the paid sick days legislation that is awaiting a vote in the Connecticut House of Representatives
"Connecticut's working moms and the people who love them are counting on the House of Representatives to pass the paid sick days bill.
While the workforce has changed tremendously in the last generation, our laws haven't kept up. Nearly three quarters of moms are now in the labor force, and more kids than ever live in single parent households.
Every parent knows that kids inevitably get sick, and not just when it's convenient or on the weekends. Sick kids deserve to have their parents around to take care of them, and it's not right to force anyone to choose between being a good parent and a good employee.
The health of our economy is tied to the health of our families; many companies with the most flexible, family-friendly leave policies are also among the fastest growing and most profitable.
We applaud the Senate for approving the paid sick days bill, and we are excited for a vote on this important policy in the House of Representatives this week.
It's time to lead. Connecticut can show that family friendly workplaces mean a healthier, fairer, smarter and more vibrant state."
