MomsRising’s Fifth Anniversary Video E-Card a Mother’s Day Ode to Moms Everywhere
In a challenging, overscheduled world, she was just a normal everyday mom, who became a legend by simply doing her best. Those words introduce a “movie trailer” that is really a fun and educational Mother’s Day video e-card that can be personalized so that the real-life mom behind this new “Hollywood summer blockbuster” can be anyone you want.
MomsRising, the online and on-the-ground grassroots organization for moms and everyone who has a mom, produced the e-card for people to share with the legendary moms in their lives. This year’s card, the third the organization has produced, is a movie trailer for a film called “World’s Greatest Mom.” The trailer features a mom fighting for truth, justice and family economic security, including fair pay. The card can be accessed, and personalized here:
MomsRising’s first Mother’s Day video e-card was seen by more than 12 million people.
“Every mom is a superstar,” said MomsRising Executive Director Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner. “This year, as we celebrate our fifth anniversary, we want to let moms know what superstars their families and friends really think they are. Every day, moms are working to make our world a better place and with this fun and entertaining e-card, we’re letting them know how much we all appreciate them.”
The e-card allows people to fill in the name of their favorite mom so that the trailer reveals that the film is based on that mom’s “real life story.” The film has been rated “I” for “inspiring” and contains “maternal themes” and “pervasive awesomeness.” The card ends with the words: Dear [Mom’s Name], You’re a superstar every day. Thank You! Happy Mother’s Day!
Mother’s Day 2011 coincides with the fifth anniversary of MomsRising, which was founded on Mother’s Day 2006 with the release of a book that outlines the organization’s policy agenda, The Motherhood Manifesto. The book was written by the organization’s co-founders, MomsRising President Joan Blades and MomsRising Executive Director Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner.
In the five years since its founding, MomsRising’s membership has grown to more than one million people across the country. Those members have supported national, state and local efforts to ensure fair pay, secure paid sick days, support family leave policies, reduce toxins in our homes, improve health care, help achieve flexible, custom-fit workplace policies, increase access to high quality early learning opportunities, and much, much more.
Over the years, MomsRising members’ actions included sending email messages to policy makers; sharing their personal stories about the need for family-friendly policies; meeting with policy makers and making in-person deliveries of messages; signing onto petitions encouraging companies to improve their policies; rallying at state houses and the Capitol; and more.
Nearly 60 diverse organizations across the country have signed on to share the love and encourage their members to use the video.
