MomsRising.org Leader Urges Committee Vote on McCarthy Nomination
“It is shameful that a handful of senators are trying to hold up Gina McCarthy’s nomination to the post of EPA Administrator by boycotting the vote to move her confirmation forward. McCarthy is highly qualified to serve in this important post. She has 25 years of experience working on environmental issues and a history or bipartisanship. She has also been instrumental in many of the EPA’s most important clean air victories.
“McCarthy answered more questions than any nominee in history in the process of her hearings – more than 1,000. Her answers were well-thought out and honest. It is one thing to oppose this nominee because one disagrees with her positions; it is another thing entirely to block a committee vote for the sake of political theater.
“This kind of partisan obstruction must end. The business of government is too important and affects too many people to be held hostage by people who refuse to recognize the importance of clean water, clean air and safe environments in which to raise our children.
“In the strongest possible way, MomsRising.org calls on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to vote on McCarthy’s nomination so that the full Senate can consider her appointment.”
