Washington-Area Moms Join MomsRising to Deliver 150,000 Signatures to NRA President David Keene Asking NRA to Support Common Sense Gun Regulations
WASHINGTON, DC - On the three-month anniversary of the tragic shootings in Newtown, MomsRising members, along with members of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, Million Mom March, Reston-Herndon Alliance to End Gun Violence!, and other concerned citizens will deliver a petition, with more than 150,000 signatures on it, to NRA President David Keene, calling on the organization to support common sense gun safety laws. Even though a majority of its membership, other gun owner organization and gun manufacturers support some of the laws being proposed to increase gun safety (such as background checks), the NRA’s leadership has vehemently opposed any new gun regulations. MomsRising is urging the NRA leadership to take a new look at commonsense gun safety policies.
WHAT: MomsRising petition delivery to NRA leaders at NRA headquarters in Northern Virginia. This will be part of the Reston-Herndon Alliance to End Gun Violence’s regular monthly demonstration. Lori Hass, Virginia organizer from the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, whose daughter is a survivor of the Virginia Tech school shooting, will also be attending the delivery.
WHEN: Thursday, March 14 at 10:00 AM
WHERE: The moms and others will meet in front of the Giant supermarket parking lot (11200 Fairfax Blvd, Fairfax, VA). From Giant, they will proceed to NRA headquarters (around the corner) with signs and banners.
